Information

Hericium erinaceus (Lion’s Mane) is widely recognized for its role in neuroprotection and cognitive support. Among its most studied bioactive constituents, hericenones, naturally present in the fruiting body, are closely associated with nerve growth factor (NGF) activity and neuronal health. Most Lion’s Mane extracts on the market are spray-dried, a process that relies on elevated inlet temperatures. While efficient, this approach can compromise heat-sensitive compounds, particularly hericenones, which are known to degrade under thermal stress. As a result, finished extracts may show reduced levels of these fragile bioactives despite high extraction ratios. To address this limitation, Biosan developed a dual-extracted Lion’s Mane (water + ethanol) finished by freeze-drying. By combining solvent-specific extraction with a low-temperature dehydration process, this approach is designed to better preserve thermally sensitive compounds while maintaining extract integrity. This product was officially launched in July 2025. Key Active Compounds (HPLC, batch-dependent values): Ergosterol ≥ 5.5 mg/g Hericenones (C + D + E) ≥ 2.5 mg/g Hericenes (A + C + D) ≥ 4.5 mg/g Accurate quantification of hericenones has long been a challenge due to limited availability of reference standards and inconsistent analytical methods across the industry. In April 2025, Biosan established a rapid and precise internal HPLC method for hericenone analysis, enabling reliable measurement based on actual detection rather than estimated or theoretical values.
