Information

In an era where functional mushroom information is increasingly shaped by social media sound bites and viral misinformation, this session brings science back to the center of the conversation.

This panel features Paul Stamets-Founder, Member, and Owner of Fungi Perfecti, LLC; Dr. Julie Daoust, Chief Science and Technology Officer at M2 Ingredients and Chair and Co-Founder of the Functional Mushroom Council; Dr. Chase Beathard, PhD, MBA, Director of Research and Development at Fungi Perfecti, LLC; and Shane Heath, Founder and CEO of MUD/WTR.

Paul Stamets will discuss a breakthrough, peer-reviewed study conducted by researchers at the University of California San Diego and Fungi Perfecti, LLC—a placebo-controlled human clinical trial highlighting mushroom mycelium as a well-tolerated approach to supporting immune resilience and immune memory during routine immune stress.

Dr. Daoust and Dr. Beathard will present new and emerging science on finished functional mushroom products, including research that evaluates real world formulations rather than isolated compounds or borrowed literature. Their discussion will highlight what the data actually shows about ingredient quality, formulation decisions, and the value of full spectrum mushroom ingredients when assessed through modern scientific methods.

Building on this scientific foundation, Shane Heath will share how brands can responsibly translate complex research into compelling, consumer-friendly education. Drawing from MUD/WTR’s experience, he will discuss how to use social media as a tool for transparency and trust building, while actively debunking common myths and misinformation that dominate short form content platforms.

Together, the panel connects rigorous science with practical communication, offering attendees a clear framework for evaluating mushroom ingredients, understanding new research, and educating buyers and consumers without oversimplification or exaggeration. The session emphasizes collaboration across science, supply chain, and brand leadership as the path forward for a more credible and resilient functional mushroom industry.
