Camille Rose
Information
Janell Stephens, founder and CEO of Camille Rose, is, with her husband Johnny, a devoted parent of five children. When her children were young, they struggled with skin sensitivities. Janell purchased drug store products hoping to break the cycle of itch, scratch and irritation. She couldn't bear their discomfort but as she read the labels on these treatments, she felt uneasy. She did not want to slather her babies in steroid creams and petroleum-based gels.
Janell sought the advice of an herbalist and started reading everything she could on skin conditioning and care.
She went into her kitchen as she believed that what goes on your body should be as good as what goes in it. She developed nourishing treatments with food grade ingredients. Every ingredient was thoughtfully chosen for the benefit they bring. She infused her creations with aloe vera, coconut milk, sweet almond milk, honey and castor oil.
The more time Janell spent in the kitchen creating these salves the more passionate she became about natural food grade ingredients. She loved the fragrance and the beautiful feeling of naturals. Spending hours up to her elbows in moisturizing goodness she noticed her own skin became more radiant. She saw as her children's scalps were conditioned and soothed their hair became shinier and thicker. She started using these products on herself and sharing them with friends and family. Her friends used to tease her when she'd bring them a new creation calling Janell The Master Mixtress. The name stuck.
Ultimately skin care for her own children lead to scalp care and body care and what she is most well known for?natural hair care. Since 2011 what began as a home remedy has turned into Camille Rose, a thriving purpose-driven black woman owned business of healthy, gourmet- inspired personal care. Janell became a leader in the burgeoning natural hair care movement encouraging women not to be held to a single standard of beauty but to embrace their own unique beauty. She's also reached beyond her own kitchen to source global ingredients and chose the best to take into her growing collections.
