We were founded in 2018 out of an obsession for the world's biggest and best in-shell sunflower seeds. This obsession turned into a business ? importing and distributing a unique varietal of highly differentiated in-shell seeds. It didn't take long for a rabid and hopelessly addicted community of seeders to discover South 40 ? people who enjoy cracking and spitting and passing the time eating our giant-sized seeds.
Our sun is our mascot and we follow the sun and always honor the sun. Recently, we began a worldwide exploration to identify unique varietals, giant sizes, grades, origin stories, and more ? always the best of the best dried fruit, nuts, seeds and unique value add products. In 2023, this passion led us to expand our business, looking to additional snack categories that are ripe for reinvention.
Enter our nut and fruit bars! During our travels to the Eastern Mediterranean and to West Africa, we discovered the most extraordinary nut and fruit bars which we launched in 2023. They are unlike any bars we've seen here in the states and so we began working with our partners in Greece and Ghana to import then exclusively for South 40 Snacks.
At South 40, we say "What you See is What You Eat." All our products share a common ethos of simplicity and transparency - few ingredients and clear packaging that showcases the beautiful product. Just like the seeds, the nut bars have found rapid market adoption and broad national distribution. We expect similar results with our delicious fruit bars as well. Grown in Ghana and the Ivory Coast, these tropical fruit snacks have an amazing sustainability backstory. They are Produced with renewable energy resources whereby all fruit waste is transformed into energy, solar energy, and bio-gas to generate electricity and heat for the drying of the fresh fruit. Plus, all water used in production comes from rainwater that is collected and treated, and all wastewater is purified. How it is grown and produced is just as important as the quality experience we hope our customers enjoy every time.
