Wedderspoon Manuka Honey
+ 1 moreInformation
About two decades ago in Canada, our original founders, Catherine Wedderspoon and Sébastien Martin noticed a need in the marketplace. Raised in England, Manuka Honey was just part of Catherine's life. However, when Catherine's mum, Diane, came to Canada for a visit and got a sore throat, Manuka Honey wasn't to be found on local retail shelves. A lengthy family dialogue arose. Realizing Manuka Honey had successfully been in European and Asian markets years prior, the founders set out to bring manuka honey to Canada and the United States.
With supportive partners in place and a stable Manuka Honey supply chain intact, Wedderspoon started as a small grass root family business, diligently knocking on the doors of small health food stores and attending tradeshows.
20 years later, what started as a family business, Wedderspoon is the #1 brand in the US of Manuka Honey. Ranging from jars of honey to pops, drops, throat-sprays and lozenges. Wedderspoon is stocked in more than 23,000 retail outlets throughout the United States. Wedderspoon remains dedicated to ethical and sustainable honey production, support of bee conservation and continued transparency. Wedderspoon has the only USDA Certified Organic Manuka Honey on shelf and still works with the original beekeepers.
In July of 2024, Wedderspoon was acquired by Florenz, a New Zealand-based leader in natural health and wellness with a mission to unlock the wonders of nature backed by science to optimize health. With this new ownership structure, Wedderspoon is excited to bring additional, breakthrough innovation opportunities to the shelf.
You might ask, what is Manuka Honey?
Manuka Honey is a unique honey that comes from the Manuka flower nectar gathered by the bees in New Zealand. Manuka (or mānuka) is a Māori word that refers to the flower that grows on both New Zealand's North and South Islands. The Manuka shrub has a very short annual bloom, which means that Manuka Honey is rare and highly sought after. Over 60 different compounds have been isolated from Manuka nectar, including antioxidants and polyphenols. Moreover, its multitude of uses makes Manuka Honey a multitasking superfood.
