KEWPIE

Information

Kewpie was born in Japan in 1919, when founder Toichiro Nakashima set out to create a nutritious, delicious mayonnaise inspired by what he had tasted in the United States. As a visionary in the food industry, Nakashima believed that good food could improve people's lives—and he aimed to craft a mayo that would be richer, smoother, and more flavorful than anything else on the market.

Using only egg yolks (instead of whole eggs) and a signature blend of vinegars, Kewpie introduced Japan's first mayonnaise in 1925. Its bold umami flavor and creamy texture quickly won over home cooks and chefs alike. Over the years, Kewpie became more than just a condiment—it became a beloved staple in Japanese kitchens, known for quality, care, and a little joy in every squeeze.

Today, over 100 years later, Kewpie continues to spread that same passion for flavor around the world.
