Cento Fine Foods

Information

When Alfred Ciccotelli, Sr. (Mr. C) began selling imported Italian food in the 1950s, he didn't view himself as a pioneer, but his goal was simple: to bring authentic Italian foods to local corner stores. Through his vision, hard work, and perseverance, he helped establish what is now one of the most popular food categories in America.

Mr. C's journey began in his father's South Philadelphia grocery store. His teenage years were interrupted by World War II, where he served in the Pacific theater, rose to Staff Sergeant, and was honorably discharged in 1946. Upon his return, much had changed. His father had passed away, and the family store had closed. After working a few neighborhood jobs, he was approached by a Philadelphia wholesaler in 1950 that sold candy and tobacco. Within a year, he was promoted to sales manager and began introducing Italian specialties to local stores. However, as the owners refocused on candy and tobacco, they cut back on Italian foods.

In 1962, Alanric Food Distributors was born. Although Mr. C lacked start-up resources, he had passion, sacrifice, and a strong belief that American consumers would embrace Italian foods. He built a line of Italian specialties, envisioning a premium brand that reflected the best of Italian culture. He only partnered with associates who shared his motto: "just treat people right."

Mr. C's legacy was passed on to the next generation when his sons, Alfred Jr. and Rick, joined the business. Alfred Jr. took his father's vision further, expanding the Cento brand from local grocery stores to national distribution in all 50 states.

Today, Mr. C's legacy lives on through Rick and his daughter Gina, who continue to lead the company. Alongside family members, they maintain the same work ethic and commitment to customer satisfaction that Mr. C instilled from the start.
