From our humble beginnings on Washington Street in 1924 to our current Oakland headquarters that span an entire block on Oak Street, we are proud of our Oakland roots and our commitment to the community.

Peerless sources and carefully roasts the world's finest graded Arabica beans. To achieve this ambitious objective, founder John Vukasin pioneered farm-direct relationships in premier high elevation growing regions, generations before today's most notable craft roasters. Some of today's 18 farm direct relationships, from Ethiopia to Costa Rica, have lasted over 40 years.
Our current third-generation ownership, with the dynamic brother & sister team of George and Kristina at the helm, understands, like their grandfather before them, that each varietal of coffee bean needs the same extensive knowledge, decades of experience and an artisan's demand for excellence, in order to reach perfection – just like fine wines. Roasting and blending exceptional coffee isn't just a business. It's a labor of love, and the family legacy.

Besides a separate training/cupping/sample roasting room, our retail store was recently updated to have all remodeling grounded in our historically deep commitment to sustainability. All the walls and display areas are crafted from reclaimed wood and metal.
