Ulu Foods
Information
In March 2020, Courtney Mills, founder of Ulu Foods, experienced a life-changing shift. At the time, she and her family were living in Barbados, navigating a grain-free lifestyle due to her young children's allergies and autoimmune conditions. Courtney relied on importing specialty foods from the U.S. and sourcing what she could from local supermarkets to meet her kids' dietary needs—until the pandemic hit. With flights grounded and local stores closed for nearly a month, her food supply chain was cut off entirely.
Desperate for a solution, Courtney began exploring the natural resources around her home. She discovered the remarkable 'ulu fruit, also known as breadfruit, growing in abundance nearby. Intrigued by its potential, she experimented with turning the fruit into grain-free alternatives. To her delight, the fruit proved to be incredibly versatile, and her children loved the taste.
Determined to share this newfound discovery with the world, Courtney partnered with Sunbury Harvest, a local farm in Barbados that grows sweet potatoes, cassava, and breadfruit. Together, they transformed an existing sweet potato factory into a GFSI certified breadfruit production facility. Today, Courtney and her dedicated team are working tirelessly to bring the island's grain-free goodness to homes across the globe.
