Australian Food and Pharmaceutical Industries (AFPI) was founded in 2015 with a mission to create a healthier, more sustainable alternative to conventional chewing gum. Our journey began with a clear vision: to replace plastic-based gum with a biodegradable, natural product that would not only benefit consumers but also contribute to reducing environmental waste.
AFPI's founder, Dr. Sharif Sharifi, was inspired by the traditional use of mastic gum in Middle Eastern cultures, known for its natural health benefits. Recognizing the growing global demand for natural and sustainable products, Dr. Sharifi saw an opportunity to bring this ancient ingredient to modern markets. What started as a small-scale operation in Bomaderry, NSW, quickly grew into a full-fledged manufacturing company focused on innovation and eco-friendly production.
One of AFPI's most significant milestones was the development of the world's first probiotic-infused natural chewing gum, combining health benefits with sustainability. This innovation aligned perfectly with global trends toward clean-label products, responsible consumption, and environmental consciousness.
Over the years, AFPI has forged strong partnerships with leading research institutions like UNSW and ARC, collaborating on groundbreaking research to further enhance our product line. Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond our products—we've embraced a circular economy by repurposing machinery from global companies such as Pfizer and GSK to increase production capacity while reducing waste.
Today, AFPI is proud to be a part of NSW Going Global and has received its FDA certification, positioning us for expansion into the U.S. market. Our journey, rooted in innovation, sustainability, and health, continues as we expand our reach through international exhibitions like Expo West and IFE UK, sharing our unique products with the world.
